A day at Ladywalk

Tuesday 13th February:

Spent the day at Ladywalk Nature Reserve, Hams Hall, nr Coleshill (a WMBC site).

The River Teme had flooded following the heavy snow and rapid thaw resulting in unusually high water levels in all pools.

Nonetheless, a very worthwhile day in weak sunshine and temperatures of c 45c.

Species seen:

Mute Swan, Cormorant, Grey Heron, BITTERN (excellent flight view), Canada Goose, Greylag Goose, Goosander, Mallard, Shoveller, Wigeon, Gadwall, Tufted Duck, Teal,Great Crested Grebe, Little Grebe, Coot, Moorhen, Water Rail, Black-headed Gull, Lapwing, Crow, Jackdaw, Jay, Magpie, Wood Pigeon, Stock Dove, Buzzard, Sparrowhawk, Kestrel, GS Woodpecker, Song Thrush, Blackbird, Reed Bunting, Dunnock, Robin, Wren, Tree Creeper, Pheasant, Great Tit, Blue Tit, Long Tailed Tit, Chaffinch, Greenfinch, Goldfinch, Bullfinch.

A total of 46 species, which considering the time of year is very reasonable.

The Bittern was seen from "B" Hide and flew from the right approx 15 feet above the water, straight past the hide and behind into the reed bed.
